Cibeles and Puerta de Alcalá
The monuments where trophies are celebrated, and the gateway to the Retiro.

Plaza de Cibeles is one of Madrid’s grandest junctions: Cibeles Palace (the former Palace of Communications, now City Hall), the Bank of Spain, the Linares Palace and the fountain of the goddess Cybele in her lion-drawn chariot.
A few steps away, the Puerta de Alcalá, commissioned by Charles III in 1778, marked the city entrance on the road from Alcalá. Today it is the natural gateway to the Retiro.
