Madrid Río and Matadero
A 10 km park built over the old motorway and a slaughterhouse turned arts centre.

Madrid Río is the linear park built along the Manzanares after the M-30 ring road was moved underground. It runs for several kilometres south from near the Royal Palace, with cycle lanes, playgrounds and historic and modern bridges.
In its central section is Matadero Madrid, the early-20th-century municipal slaughterhouse, now a large contemporary arts centre with exhibitions, theatre and cinema.

Tips
- Ride it on a BiciMAD e-bike: it is flat with a continuous cycle lane.
- In summer the urban water “beaches” (ground-level fountains) are perfect with children.
